HOPELights Magazine was chosen from over 11,000 North American businesses as a top ten finalist in the Facebook BIG BREAK for Small Business from American Express OPEN contest. The HOPELights Magazine is the first of its kind developed specifically to support the sensory needs of "differently-abled" youth. Subscribers supply information about the child recipient's diagnosis of Autism, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, MR, Spinal Bifida, or Muscular Dystrophy including their learning level and name. Information collected via a web portal at the time of subscription is used to digitally print a customized and personalized issue monthly for each child. Most importantly the child's name appears in large print on the cover and is included within the activities in each issue. The content includes a unique blend of real-world photography, gestalt learning methodology, sheet music integrated with color and reading trace, and harmonic color synchronization that provides self-confidence, fun and anticipation of a monthly magazine built just for that child. The process is known as Gentle Methods™. Voting began July 5th at 12:01am ET and ends promptly on July 19th, 11:59pm ET. The top 5 winners head straight to Facebook Headquarters in Palo, Alto CA to receive a custom developed Facebook Makeover by the strategic experts who built Facebook from the ground up and a grant for an additional $20,000 in social media advertising support from American Express. HOPELights' founder, Dawn Grosvenor hopes the Facebook makeover and exposure from American Express Open and Facebook will help increase circulation and bring the cost of production down. In addition, she hopes it will make HOPELights Magazine available to more children with special needs, as well as spear-head a new non-profit application that connects more than 27,000+ fan page users with appropriate, verified support group entities and products specialized to their child's diagnosis.
