It’s true. We really do judge books by their covers.
And in business terms, your homepage is your cover, and research shows that you only have 4.6 seconds to captivate your user and compel him or her to keep clicking.
Here are 3 tips to make sure your calling card keeps your users wanting more:
- Keep it simple. Your homepage should communicate your product or service cleanly and clearly while evoking a positive reaction from your visitors, rather than distracting them with flash and clutter.
- Be scroll-light and link smart. Beware of homepages with extreme loading times or information overload, as they are prime candidates for user defection. Instead, consider using strategically placed links that help your users understand what your business is about, how they can participate and what is current.
- Be brand loyal. The most successful marketing, without exception, reflects brand consistency. Your graphic standards should reflect your product and service and should remain constant among al platforms. But feel free to have fun with your users too. Quirkiness can keep users coming back to see what is new.
Improve your cover, and you too could have a best seller.
