Innovation Doesn't Have to be Rocket Science PDF Print E-mail

Innovation may not be as complicated as you think. Look at the iPod. It revolutionized our access to music, intellectual thought, books, TV, movies and photos. But if you remember what came before it - Walkmans, books on cassette, VCR recorders and digital cameras, it's just simple one-upmanship. It's smaller, more portable, easier to load and has more storage capacity.

How about hotel bathroom shower curtains? Somebody changed the entire hotel shower experience with a simple idea - let's make the rod bowed instead of straight. Without adding a square inch, showers all over the world became bigger.

Remember the Heinz Ketchup commercial with Carly Simon singing about anticipation? Probably not because now ketchup bottles are upside down and squeezable. Brilliant!

Think about the way people use your product. Is there a way you could improve their experience? Spend some time thinking about that today and you might just have an innovation of your own.
